The Bolivian highlands became known as the Kollasuyo, a densely populated area with great economic and mineral wealth that constituted one of the four administrative units of the Inca Empire. The highest official of the Kollasuyo was responsible only to the Inca (the emperor) and supervised a group of provincial governors, who in turn controlled members of the Aymara nobility. Under a draft system called the mita, the Incas forced local Indians in the Kollasuyo to work in the mines or on construction projects or to serve in the armies, compensating them fully for their labor. Despite their goal of extreme centralization, the Incas did not fundamentally change the organization of the Aymara kingdoms, which remained relatively autonomous. Many local chiefs kept many of their former powers and were, in general, reinforced by Inca authority. They were also able to retain their culture, their local religion, and their language. The regional nobility, although forced to send their children to Cuzco for education, continued to hold private property. Moreover, the system of sending colonists to the eastern valleys and the coast was tolerated under Inca rule.

In 1470, however, several Aymara kingdoms rebelled against Inca rule. The Incas completely defeated two states and pacified the region by sending mitimas, Quechua-speaking colonists, to Aymara territory, especially to the southern valleys and to the more central valley regions where Cochabamba and Sucre were later founded. By the beginning of the sixteenth century, the Incas had fully established their rule over the Kollasuyo. In the 1980s, the legacy of this resettlement policy could be seen in the predominance of Quechua speakers in many areas of Bolivia.

The Incas failed, however, to conquer the nomadic tribes in the eastern Bolivian lowlands. The remains of Incan fortresses there are evidence of this failure and suggest that the Incas could subdue only those cultures that were primarily based on agriculture. Thus, the Indian groups of the eastern two-thirds of Bolivia preserved their ways of life to a great extent, even after the Spanish conquest.

Rhona Mitra (born August 9, 1976 in Paddington, London, England) is a British actress. She is sometimes credited as Rona Mitra.

Rhona Mitra is the daughter of Nora and Anthony Mitra. Her mother is Irish Catholic and her father is of half-Bengali and half-English descent. She was raised as a Roman Catholic. In 1984, Mitra's parents divorced and, as part of an overall lifestyle change, eight-year-old Mitra was sent off to boarding school. Several years passed at two different all-girls schools, including Roedean, but Mitra was eventually expelled from both of them.

She has been quoted as saying: "I was kicked out [of Roedean] for taking a sixth-former's car and driving it down to the local boys' school. I was only 14. I left stuffing under my bedsheets but one of my friends told on me and the headmistress tracked me down. They put me in this room with bars on the windows to punish me. I was stuck in there for a whole week with just a rosary for comfort, having my dinner brought in on trays. The only time I got out was to say confession to the school priest. After that, they booted me out.

Then at the next school the other girls used to blame me whenever they got caught for something, so all the parents wrote in and said they didn't want me at the school. I crammed my exams in London and did fine."[citation needed]

She appeared in the final season of The Practice playing Tara, and continued that role into its spin-off Boston Legal, but left not long into the second season. She also appeared as a live action model for Lara Croft from Eidos Interactive's Tomb Raider video game series. She had a recurring role during Season 3 of Nip/Tuck.

After becoming the official living embodiment of the video game character Lara Croft, she underwent breast implant surgery in an effort to properly "become" the fictional character.

Despite the widely circulated rumor that her own father performed Rhona's breast augmentation, Rhona has laughed off the story which was originally published in the popular British tabloid newspaper, The Sun.

Rhona explained in an interview with Ministry Magazine June 1998 just how the rumor got started...

A lot of the sex kitten image came from the classic tabloid story in the Sun. The story claimed that Rhona's father - a prominent cosmetic surgeon - had done Rhona's boob job for her. "It was an absolute load of rubbish, but I eventually traced it back to where it came from. I was speaking to this girl in the toilets of a night club. She'd been admiring my boobs and I said if she wanted to she should go right ahead and get a boob job done. It was only later I found out she was a friend of Andy Coulson who used to write the Sun's showbiz column."

She started her career as a Page Three girl at the Daily Star, before becoming the official Lara Croft model for the computer game Tomb Raider. Nell was also recognised as a Forces Sweetheart. In 1999 she posed nude in Playboy magazine (getting herself instantly fired from her Tomb Raider job).

She has continued to model since, and has also had a mildly successful television career, as a presenter on It's a Knockout and The Big Breakfast; she has also been a contestant on the TV reality show I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!.

Nell is a fitness fanatic, and ran the London Marathon in 2003 in a great time (3 hours 22 minutes) in order to lose some pounds.

In September 2004, she announced her engagement to long-term partner Paul Hardcastle (not the musician). They are now married. (A spoof BBC documentary started a rumour that she was married to Dale Winton.)

She was awarded Rear of the Year in 2005. Following the Great North Run in 2005, she announced that she was pregnant. In late September 2005, however, she had to terminate the pregnancy because the foetus developed amniotic band syndrome and had little chance of survival. She became pregnant again soon afterwards, and gave birth to a boy named Devon in August, 2006
